There is one thing in life that I have a very hard time tolerating & that is lying. I cannot handle having someone lie to me. I would much rather have them tell me the truth & have that hurt me for a small amount of time as opposed to them lying to me to try to "protect" me from feeling bad & then later I find out the truth. That hurts a million times more. Lasts a million times longer & is so much harder to forgive. The truth always makes its way to the surface. It may not be from the person that told that lie...in fact it usually isn't. It ends up coming back to you in a round about way & that is what makes it hurt so bad. I don't think lying is ever acceptable. Especially if it is used in a way for fun or as a joke, getting other people involved in that joke, causing them to be a part of that lie. Just because it is "all in fun" doesn't make it right. The scriptures have taught us that lying is unacceptable. It's a commandment... Exodus 20:16...what more can I say?

This is a really hard thing to teach children. I feel many times that I am telling my kids not to lie to me, mostly it is about little stuff I catch them doing or not doing. They will turn to me and say I was just kidding. At that moment it is not a joke it is a lie. Unfortunately some grow up and still think that if they say they are just kidding or joking around then they are ok, but they are not.
